Failing everyday to produce results will never amount to success; however if you are successful everyday at producing results you cannot fail. Here are 7 Summarized Habits of highly effective people according to Stephen Covey. No Assumptions just read it and do it!
BE PROACTIVE – Your life is a product of your values not your feelings; your life is a product of your decisions not your conditions. The opposite of being proactive is to be reactive, which means your life has become a function of your feelings, your moves, your impulses, other people’s treatment. The underlining principle for being proactive is to take responsibility. You have the capacity to choose your response.
BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND – this basically means, things are created twice and beginning with the end in mind is the first creation. It means you get a mental picture of where you want to end up as you are reading today, in your relationship, in your career, in your business, after the King Maker Conference, this month, this year or in the next 5 years. This is the creation of a vision and it’s based on the principle of vision, purpose, meaning, and mission.
PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST – this is the 2nd creation. You decided what you wanted in “begin with the end in mind” now you must have the discipline to keep them first. The opposite of keeping first things first is to put 2nd, 3rd or 4th things first. Things that matter most must never be at the mercy of things that matter least.
THINK WIN – WIN – This is the habit of mutual benefit. The underlining principle here is abundance. There is plenty out there to share so you don’t have to be threatened by the strengths of other people. You can nurture competency around you, you can share knowledge, and you can share recognition, gain and profit but the opposite of abundance is scarcity.
SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND – Then to be understood is the habit of emphatic communication; the teacher does an assessment before teaching, the doctor does a diagnosis before treatment. Understand first before you seek to contribute, before you take action or have the basis for judgement.
SYNERGIZE – This is creative cooperation, to create something that was not there before, takes high levels of cooperation. The principle behind synergy is that one plus one can equal four, ten, twenty or a thousand. It’s the principle of putting 2 boards together that are stronger, valuing differences, not tolerating differences. Not accepting differences but celebrating differences.
SHARPEN THE SAW- is the principle of renewal, continuous learning and improvement. Getting better constantly, having the capability of charging our own battery. The opposite of sharpen the saw is to let the mind go dull, let body lose its vitality, through junk food, no exercise and trying to live a life of complacency rather than living a life of contribution and service.
